On May 21, Robert N. Bellah, Rabbi David Ellenson, and Toby Rubin sat down with Ari Kelman for a fascinating panel discussion about the value of the Jewish community. Each brought a different perspective on how community is valued, and offered a diversity of opinions in how he or she engages in questions of value in his or her work. The discussion was particularly interesting around the issue of free vs. fee based programs, trends in philanthropy and institutional giving, and how people make meaning in their lives vis-à-vis community.
Update July 30, 2013 - The JCCSF mourns the loss of Robert Bellah. What a blessing he was to the community.
